Florida pastor accused of role in Haitian president's assassination goes on trial

Christian Emmanuel Sanon, 67, went on trial in U.S. District Court in Miami, having pleaded not guilty to charges including conspiracy to kill or kidnap Moïse, with life exposure. Prosecutors say he helped recruit participants and hoped to become Haiti's president; his lawyers acknowledge presidential ambitions but deny he knew of a plan to kill Moïse. Martine Moïse is among the expected witnesses. Sanon's case had been severed from the spring trial for medical reasons.
