18 defendants flown from Haiti to Miami; Handal and Pierre arrested

An FBI Hostage Rescue Team / HSI team flew 18 defendants from Port-au-Prince to Miami on a U.S. military aircraft: Joseph Félix Badio plus 17 Colombian ex-soldiers who had spent five years in Haitian custody without a Haitian trial. The same day, the FBI arrested Samir Handal in Miami and authorities arrested Ashkard-Joseph Pierre in Canada. Haiti's justice minister defended the transfer; RNDDH and Haitian jurists questioned its legal basis, and Haiti's CSPJ said the investigating judge was not informed in advance.
