Handal ordered detained pending trial

Magistrate Judge Eduardo I. Sanchez ordered Samir Handal detained pending trial, finding a serious flight risk, danger to the community, and that the government's evidence is strong. The order alleges he gave Sanon and the Colombians lodging, staff and meeting space at his Delmas 60 home, plus $3,000 cash for food, fuel, radios, a shotgun and ammunition; that Sanon allegedly owed him about $4 million; and texts about a possible Middle East ambassadorship. These are allegations in a detention order — Handal is presumed innocent and awaits trial.
